Two-fer CD reissue combines two sessions, both featuring Stitt and Patterson, that were recorded on consecutive days (September , ), although one was issued under Patterson's name and the other under Stitt's. The first six songs were issued as the Patterson LP Funk You!, on which Patterson leads a date that also has Sonny Stitt and Charles McPherson on saxes and Pat Martino 6/

This CD presents the complete original album 'Sonny Stitt Sits in with the Oscar Peterson Trio', the last of the very few preserved collaborations between the two leaders. As a bonus, the three quintet songs (with Herb Ellis on guitar) recorded by the saxophonist and pianist in the studio in

This Verve CD is a sampler of his MGM recordings of and, although the claim in the liner notes that this was James' most creative period is nonsense, he does sound versatile and in consistently fine form on the wide-ranging set.

A great groover from Don Patterson – cut in a trio format, with an open-ended style that lets the players kick back and play, in the sort of free and easy setting you'd hear in a hip small club. Patterson's organ is backed by his usual drummer Billy James, and 4 of the album's 5 tracks feature tenor work, either by Booker Ervin or Sonny Stitt. The last track, "Theme For Dee".

Stitt's quartet is rounded out by Don Patterson on organ, Billy Butler on guitar, and Billy James on drums. The album has been reissued on CD, paired with a Don Patterson session from the following day (Funk You) on which Stitt also played alto and tenor sax, on the single-disc compilation Legends of Acid Jazz: Sonny Stitt/Don Patterson, Vol. 2.

These 4 brothers are surely giants. You could get most any album by Don, Grant or Sonny, and it would be pleasing to lovers of modern jazz. Together, they make a classic jazz organ group recording in this compilation. Don Patterson (died ) is in my humble opinion, the "Genius of the B-3" organ/5(6).
